blp-cares

While my summer internship at BLP is coming to a close, I am thrilled with the skills, memories, and friends I am walking away with. Both my Fine Art and my Marketing skills have been challenged and pushed… and I have grown because of it. I have also had many opportunities to give back through the new BLP Cares Program. The fourth pillar of BLP’s philosophy, “Give back to our Local and Global Community” really came through at each event.

I created a video slideshow with highlights from all the BLP Cares events:

Working with Dayspring Center

Dayspring Center has been BLP’s primary giving back partner for several years. The Indianapolis homeless shelter center opens its doors for families who need emergency shelter, resources, and support. Working with Dayspring, especially the children of Dayspring, was one of the best parts of this internship for me. I was able to grow as an individual while helping others.

Mini-Golf Outing for Dayspring

This June 20th event for the Annual Mini-Golfing Outing was a blast. There were many smiling faces, good putts, bad putts, and even some growlers to be won. Bottom-Line Performance was lucky enough to golf with pro-basketball player Rodney Stuckey for 12 of the 18 holes. He even matched BLP’s donation to play with him. Overall, the event was a wonderful Saturday evening and a huge benefit to the Dayspring Center.

Dayspring Game Design Day

For the third straight year, BLP put its game design skills to work by hosting the children participating in Dayspring’s “Camp Discovery” for a day of fun and games. We played games with the kids, listened to BLPer Jake Huhn give a presentation on “getting paid to do what you love,” and ate plenty of pizza. After that, the kids broke into groups to design their own games with the help of BLPers.

Annual Corn Hole Tournament

Each summer, BLP hosts a company-wide corn hole tournament and pitch-in lunch. Prizes are on the line, and teams enter the tournament by donating an item on Dayspring’s “wish list.” I may not be so good at cornhole myself, but I had fun teaming up with Abby, BLP’s other summer intern, and giving it our best shot.

It was great to step away from daily work and get to know co-workers a little better.

Wellness Events

BLP Cares is unique because it ties the health of the individual to the health of the community. Employees can choose to participate in wellness challenges and BLP donates money to Dayspring on behalf of the employee if they meet their goals. If the goal is not met, the employee makes the donation.

This summer, I got to participate in a six-week nutritional challenge. Participants picked from six categories such as “30 servings of fruits and veggies” or “No fast food” and had to complete any combination of the challenges for six weeks. I love competition, so naturally I tried to get all six categories all six weeks.

We also planted and kept a garden all summer, and while summer rain made our watering schedule mostly unnecessary, we have all been able to bring home fresh veggies.

Wrap-Up

I feel very fortunate to walk away from Bottom-Line Performance with experience of all sorts: marketing software, graphic design and photography, yes… but also wonderful friends, fantastic memories, and a fun summer. BLP proved to me that you can get paid for what you love to do! While summer is ending, the BLP Cares program is just getting started.
