Amazing Breakdown of a Solid Report
I finished reading the McKinsey Quarterly last week on Web 2.0 in large organizations. And while it was interesting, I found myself skimming instead of really reading the content. I immediately checked out their graphics, looked for bold font, clicked a few links, and then moved on. So when the report started showing up in other blogs I read later in the week, I had to go back and re-read parts of it to re-join the conversation. Yikes!
Finally, I discovered VizEdu. VizEdu took the report and turned it into a stunningly simple animation. Now, instead of pages of text and paragraphs of case studies, I had a few graphics and some bullets to read. They even managed to include some of the conversations and comments that others were making about the report. I found myself much more engaged in this new way of looking at the same information.
This really inspired me to think of ways I can make complex information into simple visuals. I’m getting all of the same information from VizEdu, but I like it better than the report. It just feels friendlier, and easier to digest.
What do you think? How might you re-organize a report to be more visually appealing?
