Who I Am
I am a Multimedia Developer.
What I bring to your bottom line…
I play on the Light Side and the Dark Side of Learning Development. When I graduated from DePauw a year ago, I was hired as a content writer and developer, which made sense because I have a BA in English Composition. Since then, I have followed another passion of mine and shifted more into multimedia development. That turned out to be really handy, too, because I can see things from both angles.
I bring an air of excitement and enthusiasm to BLP and my work. I love looking at a course, learning activity, or graphic and digging in deep to see what really makes it tick and how I can make it even more awesome than it was before. I love learning and doing new things so that I can push the envelope to take our learning to the next level of coolness (and effectiveness, of course). Never do the same thing twice; make it better the second time.
What would my coworkers say about me? Probably something like, "She just never stops smiling." I bring a rather phosphorescent positive energy to the BLP team. I delight in the idea that my positivity can rub off of the people around me. Whether I’m having a busy week working or just grabbing lunch with a BLPer, I have fun doing what I do. It probably helps that everyone I work with likes what they do, too.
Facts About Me…
- I love being outside. Some of my favorite things to do are hiking, walking my dog and playing in the yard with him, kayaking, whitewater rafting, and just playing in the water (since I can’t actually swim very well).
- I have the attention span of a goldfish. I have to be really into what I’m doing to be able to focus on it for more than five minutes.
- A lot of the time, my dog, Lucky, dresses and eats better than I do.
- My favorite quote is, "Time you enjoyed wasting is not wasted time". –T.S. Eliot
How I like to give back…
I think a big part of giving back is taking care of the people who have taken care of you. I don’t get to put a logo on my website, or even get a cool t-shirt that says, “I’m a volunteer,” but I still go take care of my mom’s gigantic three acre yard with massively steep ditches (and snakes) every week or two. She has osteoarthritis in her knee and can’t do it anymore, so I think it’s really important to step up; don’t wait to be asked. Part of the joy of giving back is knowing that you are making a difference in someone’s life.
I have a passion for abused, mistreated, and displaced dogs and cats, so I support the ASPCA and the Humane Society of Indianapolis. In addition, I am an advocate for the homeless. I support and have volunteered at the Dayspring Center, a shelter for homeless men or women with children. The Dayspring Center is supported by BLP as a company as well. I also donate blood on a regular basis.
