Preventing child abuse starts with providing at-risk families with mentors who can coach them on parenting skills and serve as a resource to them. BLP partnered with the Indiana School of Nursing to create a web-based curriculum that gives home visitors the skills and knowledge they need to effectively assess and mentor at-risk families. The 12 web-based courses replaced classroom instruction at a significant cost savings while, at the same time, providing a much richer and more comprehensive learning experience.
The screen shots shown are from the course focused on stress management. Its unique interface uses the calendar of a home visitor, Lisa, to drive the content as it ties together the different activities and situations that cause Lisa stress. As learners go the course they 1) discover the issues; 2) get advice, and 3) take action to reduce the stress in Lisa's life – and better learn to manage their own.
