Pressure ulcers cost the state of Indiana millions of dollars in healthcare costs each year. The Indiana State Department of Health launched an initiative in 2009 to reduce the incidence of pressure ulcers with a goal of seeing significant savings in healthcare costs.
BLP's part in this initiative was the creation of six short instructional modules targeted to clinical nursing assistants – the frontline of pressure ulcer prevention. As learners go through the six courses, each course helps them achieve two outcomes: 1) helping CNAs know the facts about pressure ulcer prevention; and 2) identifying how they can take action on a daily basis to prevent pressure ulcers. The initiative saved over $1M for the state of Indiana in its first year.
