Who I am

I am a Senior Learning Designer.

What I bring to your Bottom Line

I want to write something that everyone can understand, whether it’s explaining a complicated math problem or a new piece of software. With a background in Journalism, I try to keep it short and simple and focused on the key facts.

While not overwhelmingly tech savvy, I love to test new things if I think they can solve a problem I’m encountering. If the technology works, even better! I bring an open mind and love of research to every project. Direct me to the nearest library or internet search engine, hand me a blank sheet of paper, and I’m sure I can write you something!

Facts About Me
  • I have a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Political Science. I use my Journalism degree every day, but the Poly Sci is just for me. That basically means I have an immense affinity for The West Wing and I play fantasy congress.
  • I’m the happiest when I’m exploring someplace new. I think traveling gives you a new way of looking at the world. One of my favorite ways to explore is to check out different styles of cuisine. I’m always happy to try new foods at least twice. (Except snails; I’ve done that once and once was enough.)
  • My guilty pleasure is mystery novels. I blame the summer at my grandparents when I walked to the one-room library that only had books on repairing combines and tractors, along with copies of the Bobsey twins and all of the original Nancy Drew series.
  • I’m not a visual learner, but I love to scrapbook. Go figure.
How I like to Give Back

I’ve been volunteering with the Indiana State Museum for almost a decade. Usually, you’re most apt to find me in the Naturalist’s Lab, helping kids with the Fossil Search or the animal-calling station. I love watching little kids figure out that the “rock” they’re holding is actually a piece of the wooly mammoth they saw around the last corner.

I also spend time with my family at Christmas giving back through our church. We’re heavily involved in the Giving Tree program, where parishioners can adopt a member of a needy family and purchase gifts of clothes, toys, or household items for Christmas. Last year, I helped collect, sort, and distribute gifts for more than 60 families, from the Indianapolis and Greenwood areas. It’s truly amazing to see how many people remember others at Christmas.
